Kia ora e te whānau,

I hope this finds you well and November has been kind to you. I cannot believe that we are now looking toward Christmas and the summer holidays again! I am so looking forward to catching up with whānau and friends – most likely over a meal or heading to a beach and eating too much watermelon and stone fruit! What are you most looking forward to?

During the last month, I have been adding to my kete (basket) of knowledge by taking advantage of a few online trainings. I joined our Ako Ngātahi – Learning Together online workshop and was introduced to Attachment Theory. It reminded me just how important the first 1000 days of a child’s life is for their development and the wonderful role caregivers can play in providing safe and nurturing relationships for tamariki (children) to grow within. I recommend you attend our training next year! Keep an eye out for emails from us with training options for you.

I also had the chance to attend FASD-CAN’s Tina me te Ako – “Lunch and Learn” Webinar sessions to learn about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder from Tania Henderson, FASD Practitioner. It was such a great source of information and answered many of my questions. If you’re interested in learning more about FASD, information can be found via their website: https://www.fasd-can.org.nz/.

Whatever you’re doing this holiday period, I hope you can recharge, relax, and spend time with loved ones celebrating (surviving) another year! We made it!

In the meantime, kia kaha, kia hauora, me kia atawhai / Be strong, be healthy, and be kind.

Christie
