Kia ora e te whānau,

You made it through the school holidays! (Let’s claim the victories where we can!) I hope the transition into Term 2 is a smooth one for you and your family. Here’s to things calming down on the COVID front and settling back into some version of normality.

This month we celebrate Mother’s Day, this can be a challenging time for children in care, as well as for caregivers. I am reminded of just how helpful the A (Acceptance) and E (Empathy) of PACE can be for supporting children with the range of emotions and questions that this day might raise for them – especially if they are making Mother’s Day gifts at school. Having you around to walk alongside them as they encounter some big feelings can make the difference. So, thanks for the important role you play.

Training

It has been a while for us in Auckland, but I am excited to let you know we have in-person training workshops taking place later this month.

The first will be on Tuesday 24th May in Onehunga. Difficult Behaviour – Managing Confrontation and Intimidating Interactions is a half a day workshop exploring how confrontational interactions can be responded to within the context of relationship with your child and/or young person. There are plenty of online sessions available if you would prefer to participate virtually and other in-person locations available (Waitākere and Silverdale) – Click here for a list of all available sessions.

The other training workshop we are offering is an introduction to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).  This training increases knowledge and awareness to better understand FASD, a brain-based disability.  We look at how FASD affects tamariki in their ability to be able to respond or behave as we might want or expect them to. This programme also explores strategies for parenting and working with tamariki affected by FASD. Click here for a list of all available sessions.

Do get in touch if you’d like to be linked with an in-person coffee group, flick me a text or give me a call to have a chat about what options might work for you.

Tiaki i a koutou anō, look after yourselves!

Christie
