Course Description

When you are finding your child’s behaviours challenging, do you want to help them regulate their emotions? Would you like to build a stronger connection between you and your child, and create a more trusting relationship and calmer home?

Parenting trauma-experienced tamariki (children) takes a whole set of different tools. This workshop aims to look beneath the behaviour, and understand how previous traumatic experiences impact the tamariki in your care. We explore the necessity of changing our approach to parenting, and in doing so prompting a different response from us.

Learning Objectives

1. To gain an understanding of how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) impact on the child’s development.

2. To gain an understanding of the ‘why’ behind the child’s behaviour.

3. To explore ways of building emotional connections with children while also providing support for behaviour.

What caregivers have to say…

Very much enjoyed this session. I was very excited heading in to training & even more excited and pleased with the information I have gained from the training.

A realistic and friendly approach dealing with a tough subject. Much more was absorbed this way. Very interesting.

Wonderful refresher course and hearing everyone’s experiences as well as facilitator’s knowledge & experience.

Our training delivery is focused during terms 2 and 3, with reduced workshops during terms 1 and 4, as we know this is the busiest time of year for caregivers.  We also do not facilitate training during the school holidays. Therefore, during certain periods of the year we have limited courses available on our training calendar.
