Some useful resources

Many people and their whānau are finding life quite tricky at the moment.  Please know you aren’t alone and there are a wide range of organisations that specialise in helping.  Here is a small list that we have put together.  

Mental health

The following services offer free support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can also connect you to other places and people that can help:

  • Need to talk? Free call or text 1737 (To talk to a trained counsellor, any time)
  • Lifeline: 0800 543 354 (For counselling and support)
  • Depression helpline: 0800 111 757 (To talk to a trained counsellor)
  • Youthline: 0800 376 633, free text 234, or email talk@youthline.co.nz (For youth, whānau and friends)

If it’s an emergency, and you feel like you or someone else is at risk, call 111.

Small Steps – online toolbox to help you relax and de-stress

Staying on Track – designed to support New Zealanders with their mental and emotional health through times of stress and uncertainty

Wellbeing Sessions and Melon – an online resource that offers a wide range of free and online wellbeing sessions in real-time, helping to safely support your wellbeing from the comfort of your own space. 

Financial Support

There are a number of supports available through Work and Income for those affected by COVID, whether you are isolating, lost your job or just need help.   These supports can range from financial to community help, depending on the needs of you and your whānau.

Get your groceries delivered

The Student Volunteer Army has partnered with New World and will do your shopping for you.  Grocery service is available to those in self-isolation or who have no other way to access food. Delivery is $3 if you have a community services card, $9 for gold cardholders or $15 for normal delivery. Payment is made via debit or credit card. Orders can be made over the phone on 09 801 2122 or via shop.sva.org.nz. Orders made before 2pm each day are usually delivered within 48 hours.
