Kia ora koutou katoa,

The grandchildren and I are bonding over our garden planning and it’s beginning to feel like I’m going to be head down, and tail up, for some time!  We’ve decided that we are going to set aside one part for a Matariki garden.  This garden is going to be dedicated to growing vegetables we can harvest in time for our winter feast.  I’m really hoping we get it right, otherwise I’ll be making a sneaky trip to the supermarket for kumara and pumpkin!  I will keep you updated as we journey, but for now it’s all about tomatoes and watermelons they reckon.

TRAINING

As we develop our new self-directed online training opportunities for you to take advantage of, please remember that if there is a topic you believe could be of value to your caregiver experience, share your thoughts with us.  If you haven’t connected with our self-directed online courses yet, please click below to learn more and register.

Our next self -directed online course for release in October is ‘Developmental and Historical Trauma.’

Developmental trauma arises from ongoing childhood experiences like abuse or neglect, disrupting healthy growth and leading to lasting emotional and psychological challenges. Historical trauma is the collective emotional and psychological damage experienced by a group over generations due to significant historical events like colonisation, slavery, war or genocide.

In this course you’ll learn to recognise trauma’s signs, its effects on the brain, relationships, and emotional regulation, and explore strategies to build safe, supportive environments.

To register for this course in-take for Ocotber, and other online self-directed training, click below.

SUPPORT

I will be hosting a get together with our new Coffee group liaison, in Tauranga on Wednesday 22 October at 11am.  We will be at the Zest Cafe, 187 Chadwick Road, Tauranga.  Join us for coffee and cake and meet the lovely Carol.

Being a caregiver can sometimes feel quite lonely.  There are times when we just want to be able to talk to other adults without fear of judgement and criticism. If you are interested in connecting with other caregivers in a safe environment, please contact me.  I am always available to help you connect.

You can also call me for support or if you need someone to talk to – 027 501 0392 or email northeast@caringfamilies.org.nz

My hours of work are 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Thursday.

Or you can call our national office 0800 693 323.

If you are a caregiver and would like to host a coffee group in your area, get in touch with me and I can help you organise this.

Noho ora mai, take care, keep well,
Nyvonne
