Kia ora katou,

What extraordinary times we find ourselves in with the COVID 19 pandemic. Take care everyone in this isolation period. Stay safe, stay home and lets unite to eradicate COVID-19.

Although the atmosphere seems charged at the moment, the Caregivers I am having contact with are doing a great job of providing extra scaffolding around their children, providing security through understanding and continuity in their day to day care. Arohanui to all of you, stay in touch and connect socially but not physically. Reach out to your fellow caregivers, support is so important at this time.

Foster Care Awareness Week

It was my pleasure to be a part of my first Foster Care Awareness Week with Caring Families Aotearoa! You all do an amazing job of loving and caring for our tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people).
Here’s a snapshot of what we got up to in our region:

Rotorua – Children’s Day

A fabulous afternoon in the Redwoods to celebrate our tamariki, with live music and lots of interactive activities. We had over 200 children come through our stall with their whānau, making a pinecone birdfeeder to hang in their tree at home. A great opportunity to connect with local families and promote our new name ‘Caring Families Aotearoa’.

Taupo – Dessert and Pamper Evening

What a lovely relaxing evening, sharing our ideas for how we ‘look after ourselves’ and enjoying some delicious desserts. A HUGE thank you to our volunteers who provided eyebrow shaping and tinting, manicures, massages and real coffee! You rock!

It was lovely to receive these comments:
“What a fab dessert table and professional tea/coffee. Very grateful for all the hard work with the lovely ladies doing the ‘pampering’. Enjoyed meeting new and old friends for a chat”
“The thing I enjoyed most was sharing thoughts and experiences with other caregivers. Would love more evening / weekend events and courses, so that those who work can attend”

Rotorua – Big Splash

We had a great turn out, with over 130 people attending. Families had lots of fun exploring Rainbow Springs. The adventurous ones (who didn’t mind getting wet) had some thrills on the Big Splash. Every child was given a chocolate Easter bunny, sponsored by the local Care Team from Oranga Tamariki. Thanks to the BOP Foster Care Association committee for their hard work helping to make this event happen.

Tokoroa – Painting in the Park

Lots of children attended this event with some of the local families in the park joining in. Some very creative rock painting and face paint creations. The ‘big kids’ had fun with the L’Oréal Product give-aways – I’m sure some more ‘face painting’ is going to happen at home 😊!
