CEO Message July 2025

Kia ora
I am writing this column after enjoying a long Matariki weekend. I hope you and your whānau managed to spend some relaxing time together doing something you love.
For me, Matariki this year was about celebrating the present. I spent some special time with my elderly Mum, and our time together reminded me of how many of us are on a learning journey, particularly the older generation – when it comes to understanding the significance of the season. Mum wondered aloud about the star decorations in the communal areas and it was lovely to be able to share with her a little of my knowledge of Matariki.
We’ve had a fantastic response to our new self-directed online training, with over 200 registrations so far. If you’ve completed one of our courses recently, thank you for your constructive feedback. It is extremely valuable, particularly while this platform is so new, as we can reshape and fine tune the content according to your needs. Visit our caregiver training page for details on the two new courses we have available.
Keep an eye out later this month as we also call for nominations for next year’s Excellence in Foster Care Awards. Anyone can nominate an extraordinary caregiver or caregiving couple, so please help us celebrate the incredible work you do for the tamariki in your care.
Finally, I’d like to remind you to set some time aside for self-care these school holidays, look out for some ideas from us on our Facebook page as to how you can make time for yourself. Make sure you do something that makes you happy, so you can continue to show up for your tamariki in the best way possible.
Noho ora mai (stay well, look after yourselves, goodbye)
