CEO Message October 2025

Kia ora

I hope the school holidays are going well for your whānau so far – and daylight savings hasn’t caused too much disruption to your household. It’s nice to have the luxury of one week to help tamariki adjust to the lighter evenings before the early morning starts of the school term.

Recently, I had the honour of being appointed to a Ministerial Advisory Group formed to provide advice on the government’s response to recommendations from the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry. It is a privilege to sit alongside seven others who have such a wealth of lived experience and knowledge of the care environment. Please be assured this is a responsibility I am not taking lightly, and I will do my utmost to ensure our advice as a group is grounded and puts the safety of individuals in care settings first.

This Tuesday 7th October, we have our Annual General Meeting, where we present our Annual Report for the 2024/25 financial year and welcome a new foster carer member to the Caring Families Aotearoa Board. If you’re able to join us via Teams, please do so – I would absolutely welcome your attendance. You can find the link and all the details here – AGM 2025 – Caring Families.

Noho ora mai (stay well, look after yourselves, goodbye)

Linda Surtees
