Kia ora everyone,

I’m the new Regional Coordinator for Lower North. Well, what an exciting and interesting time for me to join the Caring Families Aotearoa Regional Team!

During this challenging time of staying home and staying safe, I will be working my way through my caregiver membership details. I’d love to be able to connect with you all (voice to voice at this stage instead of face to face – kanohi ki te kanohi). I’ve decided to try and ring as many of you as I can over the next few weeks. Please feel free to contact me. I’m here to support you.

Just a little bit about me! I love to travel and go fishing! I have been working in community services with vulnerable families and their children for the last 10 years. Prior to that I supported families who had children with disabilities, due to my own experience. I bring with me my experience of working with Oranga Tamariki and my heart to support the amazing role you, as caregivers do, for our tamariki and rangatahi in our communities for our society. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all 😊.

Foster Care Awareness Week

I was privileged to be able to attend the Wellington Foster Care Awareness Week event at our new national office space. It was lovely to meet some great caregivers and connect with some of our regional Care Team at Oranga Tamariki. Kerry Leggit, Regional Care Manager, is keen that the Caregiver voice is heard. If you feel this is not happening, please contact me to advocate for you.

Many thanks to Rob Surtees who hosted our Wairarapa morning tea event during the week. Rob enjoyed connecting with you all. Teena Bennett, our Regional Coordinator in North West, was able to host our Palmerston North morning tea event. Rae Dasler and her wonderful team were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G at hosting our morning tea in Dannevirke. Thanks also to all the Oranga Tamariki staff for combining the hosting of these events.

Tiaki Koe i a Koe (Take Care of Yourself – especially at this time!)

Bernadette
