Kia ora everyone,

March is upon us already! I have been super busy with support since coming back this year, with a few common themes coming through. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if there is anything around caregiving that you require support with, or even just a listening ear. My days of work this year are Tuesday to Friday, 8am to 5.30pm. I love talking to you all and am always so humbled by the stories you share with me and the amazing mahi you do with your children. Thank you!

I have been enjoying my online facilitation of our latest training, Making Changes – Stability in Hard Times. This training gives space for you to learn more about yourself and explore ways you can use this understanding to create a calm, settled home environment, centered around the relationship with your tamariki and rangatahi. I hope by delivering this online we can be more accessible to our caregivers who can’t attend our face-to-face trainings.

Unfortunately, due to the increase in positive Covid-19 cases, we have needed to postpone our in-person events for Foster Care Awareness Week (7-13 March). However, Caring Families Aotearoa are excited to offer two virtual events on Wednesday the 9th of March. Come and join in from the comfort of your home (11am or 8pm). We have an international speaker, Sarah Naish (UK), providing a bespoke presentation for our Caregivers in Aotearoa! Some of you may recognise Sarah from videos we have used in previous trainings, (have a google of her YouTube recordings). I know that you will be in for an entertaining hour. Sarah has lived experience as a foster & adoptive mum and has a unique and entertaining way of sharing her journey. She has a wealth of knowledge about trauma and therapeutic parenting. I hope you can join us for either of the times available.  Click here to register.

More exciting news! FASD-CAN have released their new website. FASDCAN provides some fantastic resources for parents/caregivers of children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Make sure to check it out as part of your journey in supporting your child/young person with FASD.

Support groups are starting up again. Please call our national office or me to find out what is available in your area. I would like to give personal thanks to all the support group liaisons who take time out of their incredibly busy lives to organise and run these groups for our caregivers. I appreciate you so much!

Have a great month everyone!

Nā to rourou, nā taku rourou, ka ora ai te iwi. With your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive.
