Kia ora lovely Upper North Caregivers,

Training

I was fortunate to deliver my first presentation of What’s Behind the Behaviour in Kaikohe before our current COVID crisis arrived!! Thanks to all who attended and participated. I loved meeting you and hearing your stories, we had such a great time together.

Unfortunately, we’ve had to postpone upcoming trainings due to the current COVID-19 lockdown. All face-to-face trainings have been cancelled for the remainder of this term and will commence next term when it is once again safe to meet.

Our national office team will update you with training details as they come to hand. In the meantime, we have an online learning series called Ako Ngātahi – Learning Together. These are only an hour once a month and have day and evening options available. I recommend that you join in!  The next one is on 21 September.

Support Groups

I’ve talked about my hope to set up several support groups around our region, and we now have three launched, but there’s room for more. Just let me know what will work for you, and I’ll see what we can do! These groups give caregivers time and space to share stories, challenges, and joys! Some groups are topical, for example, FASD strategies and successes, therapeutic parenting practice, or scrapbooking life story books and boxes. Support Groups are focused on providing relevant updates and encouragement for Caregivers, whānau or non-kin.

The groups are what you make them, so come join like-minded and like-hearted people influencing change, one tamariki at a time!

Virtual Coffee Groups

While we are in alert levels 4 and 3 we won’t be able to meet in person but we could arrange to meet virtually… if that’s possible with tamariki around. I’d be more than happy to host a Zui (a Zoom virtual platform hui) or a Tui (Microsoft Teams virtual platform hui) after they go to bed too. Let me know what time will suit you and I’ll send you instructions about how to join.

On the first Tuesday of every month, starting on Tuesday 7 September there will be a national virtual coffee gathering at 12.30 pm or 8 pm. We’d love you to join us from the comfort of your own home. These are coffee groups for Caring Families Aotearoa members that are caregivers only and will be taking place on the first Tuesday of every month.
