Winter Energy Payment

The Winter Energy Payment is an extra payment to those who receive a main benefit, New Zealand Super or Veterans Pension to help with the cost of heating their home over the winter months.    

If you are a single person receiving a main benefit, New Zealand Super or Veterans Pension and you are receiving either Unsupported Child Benefit/Orphans Benefit or Foster Care Allowance, then you are entitled to the higher rate of payment.

The higher benefit is $31.82 a week and is automatically paid along with your other regular payments from Work and Income.

To receive the Winter Energy Payment you must be receiving one of the below qualifying benefits:

  • NZ Superannuation
  • Veterans Pension
  • Jobseeker Support
  • Jobseeker Support Student Hardship
  • Sole Parent Support
  • Supported Living Payment
  • Young Parent Payment
  • Youth Payment
  • Emergency Benefit
  • Emergency Maintenance Allowance

If you think you should be receiving the higher Winter Energy Payment, please contact Work and Income.  Ask for an esculation if you are told you can only get a single benefit.
