CEO Message July 2026
Ngā mihi o Matariki | Greetings of Matariki,
With Matariki falling right in the middle of the school holidays this year, it feels like a lovely opportunity to slow down, spend time with loved ones, and celebrate in whatever way feels right for you and your whānau.
Over the last few years Caring Families Aotearoa has embraced Matariki and the meaning behind it. We’ve loved bringing our caregiving community together where we can, hosting Matariki events – and sharing what we’re learning along the way on social media too.
This year’s Matariki theme is “Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone”. While it is a national holiday, it’s also a chance to pause from the usual busyness of everyday life and reflect on what matters most. If you’d like to learn more about the three guiding principles of Matariki, pop over to our Facebook or Instagram channels and learn alongside us.
Our annual membership survey has now closed, with more than 500 responses received. If you were one of the people who shared your feedback, thank you. Your voice helps us better understand the challenges you’re facing, see where support is needed most, and advocate more strongly on your behalf. We’ll share the results with you soon.
I’m sure many of you already have plans coming together for the school holidays next week. Among the activities and juggle, please remember to make a little room for yourself too. Our new training, “Taking care of yourself”, offers some practical ideas and support — you can find out more here.
I hope the winter bugs have stayed well away from your household so far, and that you’re managing to keep warm through these colder months.
Wishing you a calm, connected, and meaningful Matariki.
Chief Executive, Caring Families Aotearoa
