CEO Message March 2024

Kia ora,

March is a very special month for our organisation with one of our biggest events of the year, Foster Care Awareness Week, happening from Monday 4th – Sunday 10th March.

We hope that as caregivers you always feel appreciated for the mahi that you do, but Foster Care Awareness Week is an extra special opportunity for us to recognise you, and reinforce just how much we appreciate the dedication and love you generously show the children in your care.

Our Regional Team are hosting a number of exciting events around the motu during Foster Care Awareness Week – I hope you are able to get to one! More details on these events can be found here.

We are also hosting our annual Excellence in Foster Care Awards this month. This year we are recognising 13 amazing caregivers/caregiving couples at Government House in Wellington. It has been a real pleasure reading the heartwarming stories of our recipients; it reinforces why we do what we do. We will share more of their stories in our next Snippets.

Last month our entire team came together in Wellington to continue on our cultural journey. Our kaimahi Māori led us through a two day experience at a local marae (including staying overnight). It was an enriching, eye opening experience, and was wonderful to spend quality time together as a team. A definite highlight of the year so far!

Since my last update, we have also continued to make progress on our White Paper, which is now in it’s final stages. I look forward to being able to share a release date with you in due course. Watch this space.

In the meantime, I hope you are continuing to look after yourselves. Take some time this month (especially during Foster Care Awareness Week) to catch your breath, remind yourself what a fabulous job you are doing, and practice some self care!

Until next month, Tiaki i a koutou anō (look after yourselves).
